A few months ago, I began working full-time. Although this might seem like an odd choice for someone who has their own business, I’m happy to say that I’ve still been doing independent shoots on evenings and weekends!
It takes a very special opportunity to go full-time as an entrepreneur, and this opportunity in particular has been an amazing experience thus far. So, I wanted to share what I’ve been doing: I am currently working with Rookwood Pottery!
This collaboration with Rookwood Pottery has been particularly exciting to me due to its standard and its history. In case you’re unfamiliar with the company, everything is made in-house and by hand. Some of the pieces are even hand-thrown, exclusively available in-store, one-of-a-kind, and signed by the artist. Pretty incredible!
Furthermore, Rookwood Pottery was started in 1880 by a woman. This was especially revolutionary at the time, as the founder was likely one of the first women to have a business of this size. To this day, Rookwood Pottery is still a woman-owned business and even has a team that’s made up of 60-70% women.
Another aspect that makes this new adventure so exciting for me is that I’ve been able to shoot every day! Whether it’s assisting with Rookwood Pottery’s overall brand, or shooting individual pottery pieces, every day is different and a skill-sharpener.
Working in this environment has also given me a greater appreciation for the entire process of pottery-making. When I take photos, I feel a responsibility to not only make sure the pottery form looks good, but that the glazes look great as well. So much time and testing goes into the process, and it’s nice to be in an artistic environment where so much consideration goes into the craft.
Overall, working with Rookwood Pottery has been a wonderful experience so far, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings. They really focus on making everyone feel like an important part of the team, and that’s something that I’m excited to be a part of.
